Retired 1/1/15
In retirement I have embarked on going back to the future by enrolling in Villanova's " super Senior" program allowing old farts like me to take undergrad classes. I take 1 course a day in history and /or poli sci, my old majors, and spend time volunteering to counsel abused women on their life options both personal and legal to deal with their domestic issues. The rest of my time is spent helping to chauffeur my grands to after school programs while their parents, my children, work. Judo, piano, gymnastics, dance, cub scouts, soccer, baseball, football, rock wall climbing, flute, clarinet etc. i'm exhausted by watching their activities. I take summers off downashore in Ventnor, where the kids often pile in on weekends and gaps between school and camps
We continue to take a few trips abroad as we always have done during our marriage.
Not exactly the retirement I envisioned, but then, I didn't exactly retire with a blue print for Act 3. So far so good. God has blessed us.

Short update 2018

Transferred adult education to Temple (Ambler) for some further educational broadening in my old age. Temple is purely for Senior farts. Not undergrad as was Villanova. Less ennervating but still gratifying. We now snowbird our winter’s in Delray Beach Fla, trying to follow the sun from Ventnor summers!
Engaging with the 224 brothers whenever I can, in Fla , jersey, or at home in Lower Merion. ROMEO ( retired old men eating out) dinners with the guys are good for my spirit. Reaching out whenever I can, renewing old bonds or forging new ones. Sad to see our guys dropping off at an increased pace, as we age. Mortality is not amongst my more joyful contemplations.
Grands getting bigger, but we had a bonus baby grandson last year to carry us thru our uber old age.
We continue to be blessed.
Not sure why.
Further update 2019
Am settling into a tri state life style (3 mos in Fla, 4 mos in NJ and 5 mos in Pa).
Am finding it a bit strange but am comforted that wherever I land in whatever state there are brothers nearby. Thanks much to all those that receive my outstretched hand to break bread. It’s been great renewing old and making new friends from long ago.
Further 2019 update- started playing pickle ball this summer at the shore. Am now obsessed and play 3x @week frequently with 224 brothers at various racquet and tennis locations. Fastest growing sport in America as us boomers increasingly retire and pick up the sport. Sweaty and sore and holding off weight gain. Recommend it to all.

School Story:

shrenck failed me in geometry. Built character.
Cut from every team.built character
Totally unexceptional sojourn. Molded character.
Great memories including dry shaving in the gym as punishment and cleaning track during detentions. No effect on character.
Sledding down south lawn on lunch trays. Fun for my character
Retained many boyhood central friendships to this day.
Went to 2 undergrad U's and then law school. Central made the most impression upon me of the 4.

Central's influence in my life

Character and perserverence and collegiality.
Learning to overcome obstacles.
Learning proper reading writing and arithmetic. Mostly reading and writing.
Still can't do math.
Central instilled enough confidence and elitism in me to make me a sucessful attorney able to build and run a multi state law firm with my partners.
Never would have happened without CHS behind me.

50th Reunion Reflections

I miss being a kid.
Now 3 years post retirement, tried going back to villanova for 2 1/2 years, counseled battered wives for 2 years, worked for my son’s lawfirm for 3 months. ( I found I am now too heavy for light law work, and too light for heavy law work).
The only thing that’s stuck has been taking grands to after school stuff and now we have a surprise bonus baby, our 5th. ( can you say go to little league at age 80?).
We continue to summer downashore, and travel ( off to UK and Israel in April ‘18).
Looking for new volunteer vistas as soon As I recover from meniscal surgery( little league 1 - 69 yr old knee 0). Trying to make retirement interesting, meaningful and yet not overtaxing. Anyone have the right formula, let me know.

Read Larry Glass’s musings on his regret at not going to Happy Valley.
Brought back my less than lyrical sojourn at Penn State.
Went up as a freshman, and rushed a frat that closed when house renovation cancelled, before I could brotherize.
Signed up for an apt with a friend. Indies we’re just getting hot.
Friend flunked out and we lost the apt when my parents wouldn’t co-sign the lease by myself.
Dad gave me a car to take up to the dorms my soph year, to assuage my no frat, no apt depression.
Car broke down on way to registration, and Dad wouldn’t fix it.
No frat, no apt,no car.
Then girlfriend was rejected for main campus. No frat no apt, no car, no girl.
Transferred to Temple for Junior year thinking G-d wanted me gone from PSU.
Went to registration at Mitten Hall. Line around the block, couldn’t get required courses for my major.
Contemplated suicide as I faced summer sessions. Graduated after miserable 2 years at the superannuated High School that Temple was back then.
Then I lost my law school deferment.
Then the Army.
That is why I love the 224.
