What's happened since leaving Central

1. I practiced Medicine off of City Line Avenue until 1999, then took a private practice opportunity in Naples, FL and haven't looked back. Beat the naysayers and finally got married 1997. So while most of you are grandparents, I've got a thirteen year old daughter! and learning to cope.

2. Do miss Bala Golf Club, the Orchestra, singing Gilbert & Sullivan with the Savoy Company, singing Verdi with Bel Canto Lyric Opera, going to Saturday matinees at the Metropolitan Opera.

3. Do not miss snow, ice, cold, sleet, hail, shovels, traffic jams, crime and HMO's. West coast of Florida is much different from the East coast. Much more Mid-West influence, from up and down the I-75 corridor. Come look at Naples for a second (or first) home.

4. I am about to birth a first novel in the Fall. Stay tuned.

Central's influence in my life

Like everyone else, Central's influence is massive. Today is May 17th. It's been 24 hours since I sent Mike Rieder the 30 newly-unearthed photos of the Miss 224 Dance. I couldn't upload them, so I put them in a Power Point. Within an hour (on Saturday!) he had the entire reunion committee at work regarding ways to import a Power Point into this site (not easy). Everyone jumped on it and I started getting emails about how to this and how to that, (along with a few prime jokes). Now..... these are guys I haven't seen (mostly) in 50 years! Yet the camaraderie, concern, friendship and (yes) affection felt exactly the same as when we were planning that Dance, so long ago. So I have to say, not only do the memories "never die", the feeling and the camaraderie "never die" as well. Tonight the difficult job of getting those slides onto the site is completed, I think by Mike and Mark Lipshutz. Everyone please go and look at their work. Thanks guys!

Mike: I don't know how you put up with all this garbage. DH Lawrence called it "meretricious persiflage".

Hey Marc: I took a lot of flak about that blow up boat/raft during Irma down here - since I forgot to get a paddle (tongue depressors don’t work). Thus I would’ve literally been up ____’s creek without a paddle. Lots of people thought that hilarious but eventually I found a broom. Nevertheless, had we awakened that Monday morning to a 5 foot storm surge outside the shelter, who would’ve had the last laugh? Thank you to Troop 200 from Har Zion). Dan

Hey all: While on hurricane watch here in Florida, I did some mindless surfing and came up with this piece of useless trivia : John Brodie, former 49ers QB 18th on the list of most career interceptions with a grand total of 224. DK

Tsk tsk Marc m’boy. I’m one of your great supporters. What’s with the hostility? “Pick a side or get out of the way?” Really? Since when are ‘sides’ obligatory? What if the issues are circular?

I knew Eric just a bit at Central, but am likewise so saddened to hear this news. My one real interaction with him was significant however. I was part of a family vigil at HUP in 1974, and we were quite disturbed with the oncologist not being forthcoming with information. At 11pm the family decided to move my Dad, unless the nurses got a doctor immediately. A resident came up.  It was Eric. He took me aside. The kindness and compassion he showed us , and the hand of reassurance on a teary 224 brother’s shoulder, I will never forget. What a dignified and talented colleague we have lost.

Marc m’boy: great to talk to you. But maybe our west coast of Florida (Naples) is too wild for you. Last night walking the dog with my stick (coyotes) I swatted at a giant cane toad then the dog started stalking someone in the distance with ears sticking up. What I assumed was a rabbit turned out to be an armadillo- nasty creature but it really scurries fast. Unlike Boca/Delray, we’ve got the whole Noah’s “mishpucha”. - snakes, gators , panthers , hand sized spiders. It’s a real treat. And Brother Tuck wants to try it next year (we welcome all 224ers.) Dan(ny).

(PS: it’s so wild I’ve written six children’s books about these characters...anyone know an illustrator or children’s publisher?)
